Overview
The National Cancer Coalition established a strategic partnership with the Parana state government of southwestern Brazil to assist needy cancer patients within this region.

The Need
With a population of over 180 million, the government of this country has not always been able to meet all of the social services and programs that its exploding population requires. Cancer treatment, with its high costs of chemotherapy medicines, is one of those areas in which assistance has been required for many of Brazil's most poor to be able to have an opportunity for full treatment. NCC is seeking to help all needy patients regardless of where their live.

The Hospital
NCC donated medicines were provided to UOPECCAN Hospital do Cancer, the cancer-specific hospital in the city of Cascavel. UPOPECCAN is the regional cancer hospital that supports all patients in the eastern region of the State of Parana. There are approximately 400 new consults per day and 72 cities in the Parana region depend of UOPECCAN for treatment.

Distribution
In partnership with Cascavel mayor Lísias de Araujo Tomé, NCC visited UOPECCAN and other hospitals in the Cascavel area. A hand-over ceremony as held at the municipal building and press conference to inform spread the news that there were cancer pharmaceuticals available for donation.

Results
Our donations of cancer medicines to these hospitals are providing opportunities for treatment and hope for survival.
