Intro

The National Cancer Coalition donated high quality cancer pharmaceuticals for the needy patients of the Instituto de Oncologia Dr. Heriberto Pieter and the Instituto Oncologico del Cibao in the Dominican Republic.

The Need

The Dominican Republic is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Although the government helps pediatric cancer patients to the extent possible, adult cancer patients are often solely responsible for securing their cancer medicines. This has caused a huge dilemma in a country whose hospitals nor patients have the resources to secure expensive chemotherapies.

Hospitals

The Instituto de Oncologia Dr. Heriberto Pieter in Santo Domingo is the largest cancer hospital in Dominican Republic. It is headed by Dr. Catalina Gonzalez and it treats the majority of pediatric and adult cancer victims in the Dominican Republic.

The Distribution

NCC officials handed-over the cancer pharmaceuticals to Instituto de Oncologia Dr. Heriberto Pieter’s Medical Director Dr. Catalina Gonzalez. These high-quality cancer drugs had been very difficult for the Dominican healthcare officials to attain; many of the drugs provided required refrigeration and are seldom donated overseas. Instituto de Oncologia utilized the drugs in their treatment protocols to assist leukemia, lung, sarcoma, lymphoma, and cervical cancer patients.

Result

The cancer drugs provided to Dominican Republic by the National Cancer Coalition will help to assist over 400 patients. NCC is making a difference one precious life at a time.
