The National Cancer Coalition provides oncology pharmaceuticals to needy cancer patients in Mexico.

The Need

Mexico has millions of citizens living in poverty. Given the high cost of treating cancer, there are many Mexicans who cannot attain the necessary expensive medicines required to treat cancer.

Hospital

NCC provided cancer medication to the children’s oncology unit at the Instituto Nacional de Pediatria, as well as numerous other cancer hospitals and clinics near Mexico City. The Instituto Nacional de Pediatria treats 25% of Mexico pediatric cancer patients. Its cancer ward has 55 beds and treats 790 in-patients per year and over 4000 outpatients per year.

Distribution

A hand-over ceremony was held in Mexico City to bring public attention to the fact that donated medicines were available for needy oncology patients. NCC President Robert Landry and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza participated in the event, along with Mexican Ministry of Health and public hospital officials. Amb. Garza stated “Today we are celebrating the generosity of the National Cancer Coalition which has made a historic donation of life-saving drugs to the Casa de la Amistad’s medicine bank. This donation will help hundreds of children receive the critical medication they need”.

Result

Hundreds of needy Mexican pediatric and adult cancer patients have been assisted because of medicines provided by NCC. We are committed to assisting those oncology patients receiving treatment in Mexico’s public cancer hospitals.
