Intro

The National Cancer Coalition donated medical equipment, medical supplies, and cancer pharmaceuticals to the patients of the Tashkent Villoyat Oncological Dispensary in Uzbekistan.



The Need

Uzbekistan is a developing country with an underemployment rate of approximately 30 percent amongst its population of 25 million. As a result, a great number of its people have very limited access to basic health care and have overwhelmed the public health system.




Tashkent Villoyat Oncological Dispensary


The Tashkent Villoyat Oncological Dispensary is a 220-bed adult cancer hospital in Uzbekistan. It treats over 4,000 patients each year (1,800 new cases) and is especially vulnerable to the shortage of effective medicines and modern medical equipment in Uzbekistan.


Distribution

National Cancer Coalition officially handed over cancer pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, in partnership with Counterpart International, to Dr. Yokub Yusupov - the Medical Director of the Tashkent Villoyat Oncological Disipensary. NCC was honored to have Mr. James Goggin (Director of USAID for Uzbekistan) and Uzbek Vice-Minister of Health Khodjibekov pariticpate in the official hand-over ceremony.



Result

National Cancer Coalition’s donation of medical equipment will assist the Tashkent Oncological Dispensary for many years to come. NCC’s donation of medical supplies will assist the Tashkent Oncological Dispensary for approximately one year. NCC’s donation of cancer pharmaceuticals will assist the Tashkent Oncological Dispensary pharmaceutical needs of specific chemotherapy medicines for approximately 2 years.
